As part of the X-generation, we watched Logan's Run, Soylent Green, all the Star Wars and Treks, The Day After, Stepford Wives, and devoured more of these types of stories modernized of "It Could Happen Here" with Handmaid's Tale. The End of Men is a wonderfully thrilling yet a scary futuristic look at what we we already have in our society - Pandemic, climate change, gun violence, mainstream media, iPhone/watches, Alexa, self-driving cars, and desire of government control over resistance. It is eery that the author started this book 15 years ago, well before many of these inventions had reached full potential. She takes the reader on a ride of the mental anguish of sudden loss of a loved one due to violence while she navigates the new reality of living through a "Great Separation." The perseverance and sheer strength of this heroine's "hot mess" is beautifully crafted as the story develops. I could not put the book down, it is a thrill and a prophetic look at what "could be" and accomplished the blockbuster feeling of what some of the stories in the 80's did. Loved every bit of it!
