Description
What do you do when life as you know it ends?Eden Ross is trying to figure that out. She starts by packing up the remains of her life and moving to a small town in Colorado to run a bar alongside her best friend. But the work still doesn't provide a sufficient distraction from the demons nipping at her heels. Estranged from the family she loves, she tries to focus on her new, tight-knit group of surprisingly accepting neighbors. That includes Chase Taylor, a charismatic outdoorsman she fails to keep at a distance despite her best intentions. But letting anyone get too close carries the possibility of them finding out her ugly truth, and that's a risk Eden's not willing to take. When a revelation from an unexpected source rocks her to her core, she's forced to make a decision that will change the course of her life. Faced with this impossible choice between her family and her well-being, she knows she needs help, and the only way to get it is to tell the truth about what has happened, so she can finally leave the past behind once and for all.In her debut novel, Hannah Bird deftly explores what it truly means to be a family, and whether those ties that bind us all can- or should- ever be broken.Follow Eden on her journey to discover the goodness of life and love after tragedy, and the importance of those that support us along the way.

5 STARSEden Ross started from the bottom and ended up in small town Colorado. The bright, self-aware woman with copper colored hair, isn't running—she's rebuilding. Healing from hurt that should never been her burden to carry. Eden finds support from her bestie, the town's favorite bar without a name, and the outdoorsy guy from across the street—Chase Taylor.Chase Taylor is a patient man with witty moments. He has dreams of hiking adventures. He knows the wilderness. Chase knows about loss. His pain refined his purpose, and the man lives in the moment. Chase learned the hard way the next moment is guaranteed.Eden walks through the mountains of her healing journey. Chase is that constant presence. He's always a step behind Eden ready to steady her feet, or carry her down that mountain.Eden has to trust Chase to do so.But first Eden has to trust herself. Why 5 Stars?I read this book on my lunch hour. It was a great change from the cookie-cutter romances I tend to gobble. Dialogue between Eden & Chase was natural, and on a deeper level. Eden wasn't an inexperienced damsel in distress. She was mouthy with a witty edge. This story is told from Eden's POV only. Make sense, this is Eden's journey. Chase wasn't the shiny star. He earns kudos for being that sexy supportive wilderness guy. Although a glimpse into that hunk of a brain would've been taken this story to another level. This book nails intimacy, the importance of connection, and trust when a person is healing. The schmexy-time scenes weren't very steamy, but lovely nonetheless. This book teases you with a slow burn, and beautifully written intimate moments. However, you won't find the glorious face blushing adjectives you find in most contemporary romance. Nevertheless, the main schmexy scene was written beautifully, although a bit short lived.Ultimately my 5 review is based on how beautifully the author represented trauma & healing. I feel like a trigger warning is necessary for this book. The author touched on sensitive issues, showed the rawness of healing, importance of support, and the heartbreaking realness of healthy boundaries. I'm still mind blown. I look forward to whatever Author Hannah Bird writes.Highly recommend, check this out!
