Don't let the release date of this film (1937) bias you. A moral message film utilizing strong characters and a realistic backdrop, the main cast turn in exceptional performances. Unlike many films of the late '30s, there's hardly any over-acting. This film probably won't appeal much to younger audiences, unless they already have an appreciation for period films. Although I've seen this movie telecast a number of times on television (including cable), this particular DVD release is also exceptional in video quality and on my cheap flat panel looked almost flawless.
